Dancing for Dessert and Norton Internet Security
Some of our members have had some trouble accessing the DfD instructional materials. Upon closer scrutiny we found that these members were all using Norton Internet Security.
Our programmer looked into this and sure enough, the default settings on NIS was indeed blocking the DfD instructional materials. We have found two ways of addressing this issue:
- The easiest way to fix this would be to simply disable the firewall element of NIS. Though this does present a potential security threat to your computer system, keep in mind that if you are using a wired or wireless router, this device is it's own firewall and, used properly, will provide you sufficient protection from any internet intruders. * Take care NOT to disable the Anti-Virus element of NIS, as no firewall will protect you from viruses.
- Though fixing this without compromising the protection of NIS is a slightly more involved process, we have found a support link (www.modwest.com/help/kb2-282.html) which will guide you step-by-step through the process of configuring your NIS to allow the DfD instructional materials to pass safely through.
